STUDENT-ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: MIA MASON, BEACH VOLLEYBALL
Junior Mia Mason is entering her third year of competition with the Arizona beach volleyball program. Over her first two seasons, she's compiled a 20-17 record. During her freshman season, Mason and partner Kalei Mau notched a 9-4 record and helped the Wildcats qualify for the first ever NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship.

Mia MasonWhat's the team's strategy going into this season?
Going into this year our strategy is not to let other teams dictate how we play. No matter how big or small the opponent, we want to control our game and play Arizona Volleyball. Our main team goal is to get to Gulf Shores (Alabama) and fight for our first national championship.

What was it like for Arizona to host the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships last year?
Hosting the Pac-12 tournament was so fun! It was great to have all the other schools on our home turf and show them how we do it big in Tucson. It was also very convenient because we had access to all of our own amazing facilities.

Where have you seen the most improvement from last year's play?
Since last year, our whole team has improved our offensive game, giving ourselves more opportunities to score. Also, in practice we have spent a lot of time breaking down the skills and improving the little things that are needed to be successful, like passing and setting.

How important has the support of the Wildcat Club been to you and even your family, who are Wildcat alums?
The support of the Wildcat Club has been great to our program and helping us build an amazing beach volleyball team. The Wildcat Club is a great way to get Arizona alumni together to rally behind and support the current student-athletes.

COACHES CORNER: FRED HARVEY, TRACK & FIELD AND CROSS COUNTRY
Coach Harvey has led the University of Arizona's Track & Field and Cross Country programs since the 2002-03 season. In the last decade of indoor and outdoor competition, he has led the men's team to 10 top-25 finishes, while guiding the women's team to seven top-25 finishes.

Coach HarveyWhat should fans look forward to this season?
Some very exciting track and field. We have some great NCAA and world-level athletes with a guy like Jordan Geist throwing the shot. I feel excited overall with what we have with our new sprinters and hurdlers. With Carlos (Villarreal), everyone is excited about the mile. I think we have really great local athletes who are going to perform at a very high level.

What will make the season successful?
Consistency. Being able to come out and compete at a high level at whatever time of the season. It is important that we learn how to compete at a high level every time we step on the track.

What makes Arizona so special?
It is a program of opportunity. It is a great atmosphere for track and field. You have the weather; you have the proximity to California and Texas so you get a lot of great teams and athletes that want to come in and participate.

How impactful is support of the Wildcat Club?
The Wildcat Club is vital in our total development. It keeps us in contact with our alumni and competitive for future student-athletes.
